Applications

We're applying the MTM platform across a rare genetic disorder (Gaucher disease), two categories of infectious disease, and breast cancer imaging for surgical guidance.

Rare disease

Gaucher disease

Rare genetic disorder caused by defective lysosomal enzyme. Current treatment costs ₹3 million per year for a 10 kg patient, with lifelong IV infusions every two weeks.

  • We have developed 3 properietary molecules, aiming to reduce IV frequency/dose, and make treatment affordable
  • 3 candidates performing 2x better than the current standard of care.
Antiviral

Dengue viral infection

A serious global problem with no approved drug, and disease severity that is especially high across LMICs, including India. Dengue is a macrophage-tropic virus.

  • We are developing novel antiviral conjugates designed to kill dengue virus inside macrophages
  • 25 novel conjugates designed and synthesized
Antibiotic

Antimicrobial resistance

AMR organisms are a major global challenge, pathogens are increasingly unresponsive to existing antimicrobial drugs, and the drug pipeline has run dry. Moreover, many AMR microbes hide inside macrophages away from the reach of current antibiotics.

  • We are developing novel conjugates of antibiotics designed to kill bacteria inside macrophages
  • In vitro proof of concept demonstrated.
Oncology / imaging

Breast cancer imaging

Breast cancer accounts for ~25% of all cancers in women. Surgery guided by sentinel lymph node biopsy remains the first line of treatment in 90% of cases but current imaging agents suffer preparation losses and low spatial resolution. Tumor micro-enviorenment are highly enriched with tumor associated macrophages.

  • We are developing novel MTM carrier to be sold as the non-radioactive component which can then be radiolabeled by the radiologist at point of use for surgical imaging
  • MTM selectively bind tumor macrophages, guiding surgeons in real time
  • 2 novel MTM carriers synthesized.
